Did a hurricane cause damage to your lake shoreline?

Are you worried about heavy machinery causing additional damage during the repair process?

Did you know that eroding shorelines will continue to worsen and repairs may become more costly until addressed?

Dragonfly Pond Works, the Florida shoreline restoration experts, can put your mind at ease. Our team is local and has extensive experience in repairing hurricane damaged shorelines and lakes. Our low-impact solutions are ideal for Florida HOAs, golf courses, municipalities, and any areas where access is difficult or impact needs to be minimal. Our shoreline restoration services utilize low-impact pump dredging to fill geotextile tubes with sediment from the bottom of the lake to create a natural slope. Since 2006, Team Dragonfly has been providing customized lake, pond, and stormwater management services. Our knowledgeable lake repair team will assess your specific needs and work with you to create a plan to efficiently restore your shoreline.

Low-Impact Fort Myers Shoreline Restoration Process

Unsafe, eroded shoreline in need of restoration. This shoreline is unsightly, has the potential to decrease home values, and is cause for liability concerns.

  1. Dragonfly’s erosion repair experts secure the base geobag to the eroded shoreline. Additional geobags will be stacked on top of the base bag to create vertical height. This restores the slope, or escarpment, to a proper ratio.

2. The crew easily maneuvers the low-impact pump dredge without the need for heavy machinery that may cause (additional) damage to the area.

3. The dredge pumps sediment from the lake bottom directly into the geobags staked on the shoreline. This increases efficiency by eliminating the need for hauling in outside material.

4. Once the bags are adequately filled, the sediment is left to dry. The top bag is cut open and the dried sediment is graded to the desired slope. The bottom base bag is left intact as a safeguard against future erosion.

5. The sediment is secured with coconut matting to help prevent washout. Our Fort Myers shoreline restoration experts then secure sod over the matting to complete the shoreline restoration process.

Our shoreline restoration through low-impact pump dredging has restored the embankment to a natural, safe slope. Additionally, we’ve restored peace of mind to these homeowners that their prized lakefront property has not permanently lost value or safety.

Additional Shoreline Restoration Examples:

Example 1:
9,000 Feet of Shoreline Damaged By Major Hurricane

In 2017, Hurricane Irma damaged 9,000 feet of lakefront shoreline for this luxury community near Fort Myers, Florida. Various challenges required our team to implement multiple erosion repair solutions. Challenges included the proximity of homes next to the shoreline and almost daily afternoon rainstorms which increases the potential of impact from equipment. Our crews utilized low-impact methods and timed machinery related work so as not to cause any additional property damage.

Before: Hurricane storm surge washed the berm into the lake.

After: Our low-impact erosion repair methods restored the berm. We then installed sod and riprap to further secure the shoreline.
