Are you a commercial property manager in Raleigh-Durham seeking expert guidance on stormwater conversion and compliance for your new construction developments? Dragonfly’s stormwater construction specialists are here to help with our customized solutions.

As a commercial property manager or facility manager in Raleigh-Durham, ensuring stormwater compliance for your new construction properties is essential. Local municipalities require the conversion of construction site sediment catch basins into stormwater control measures to effectively manage runoff and meet regulatory standards. Dragonfly Pond Works, a trusted stormwater contractor headquartered in Raleigh since 2006, specializes in stormwater compliance and offers comprehensive services to assist commercial property managers in achieving regulatory compliance. In this article, we present a case study showcasing our stormwater conversion capabilities and explain how our expert team can help you navigate the stormwater compliance process seamlessly.

Stormwater Conversions: From Catch Basins to Certified Stormwater Ponds

Stormwater ponds, which begin as sediment catch basins during construction, play a crucial role in capturing displaced soil and pollutant runoff. Once construction is complete, these basins need to be transformed into fully functional stormwater control measures, or SCMs. Dragonfly Pond Works excels in this stormwater conversion process, ensuring that the newly constructed developments adhere to compliance regulations and effectively manage stormwater runoff. In addition to completing your Raleigh-Durham conversion project, we will work with a local Professional Engineer to certify your pond, assist with the annual inspection process, and provide routine maintenance to keep your SCM functioning as designed. We remove the headache of managing stormwater systems and compliance regulations by being the single source for all of your stormwater needs.

Stormwater construction expert excavates

1. Clearing and Excavation: Our stormwater construction experts started out by dredging out excess material from the main pool and forebay area. This step created a clean slate for the conversion process

2. Grading and Design: The entire pond was carefully graded to meet the design plans created by a professional engineer. The plant shelf was raised and lowered where required. This ensures that the stormwater control measure functions optimally and adheres to regulatory compliance

3. Forebay Berm Construction: To separate the sediment forebay from the rest of the pond, we constructed the forebay berm. The forebay berm slows down incoming runoff, allowing sediment to settle out effectively. We also installed the weir

4. Dam and Spillway Construction: Our Raleigh-Durham stormwater corrective experts then raised the elevation of the dam and constructed the spillway to the correct height

5. Riser and Dissipator Pad: Next, our team raised the riser to the proper height, installed the orifice, and reinstalled the trash rack. The dissipator pad was installed, which reduces the speed of water flow

6. Fabric and Riprap Installation: To prevent erosion and enhance pollutant filtration, we installed fabric and riprap at critical locations, including inlets, outlets, berms, and spillways. These measures safeguard the system while promoting water quality

Aquatic plants are installed along the shelf. These plants are part of the pond’s design.

7. Stabilization and Vegetation: Sod was installed over all disturbances throughout the system. We installed aquatic plants per plan and system requirements once construction was complete. Goose fencing was utilized to prevent waterfowl damage to the plants and ensure establishment

8. Final Inspection: Our stormwater management experts thoroughly assessed all system components to ensure system integrity, compliance, and successful final certification by a professional engineer
